Three Tips to Keep Your Bossier City Home Comfortable During the Winter Months

November 24, 2015

The dipping temperatures in Bossier City aren’t leaving, and while it’s simple to fantasize about the warmer weather, it’s critical to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a huge role in this, which is why it’s so important to complete annual furnace service.

We do have to bring up the fact that there are only a couple things that will contribute as much to your comfort this year as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is recommended be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them comfortable the entire season?

Already check off your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — most energy companies will have an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need improving. You may be surprised what areas are permitting hot or cold air to get out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you can still have air making its way inside. Check to see if your weatherstripping is all good or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you notice any problems, weatherstripping is easy to swap and could take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they may be letting all the hot air in your home escape through your ceiling. Fixing this is as easy as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These couple of tips are just a place to start, but do recognize that there are other easy fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to do on the weekend.
